For his 31st birthday on July 9, Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia got a surprise party and a cake — but he had to go quite a ways for them.

The celebration took place during the 66th annual USO tour, to Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. Ventimiglia went along, with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL players Drew Brees and Osi Umenyiora, and two Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

Ventimiglia says that his grandfather and a great-uncle fought in World War II (but only the grandfather came back) and that his mother’s brother had a military career. But his military ties run even closer.

“My father was in the Army right around his early 20s,” he says, “at the time of the draft. He enlisted to be a little smarter about the process, and did two tours in Vietnam.

Wow!  It has been along time since I updated the site.  There was a lot going on in “real” life for me and I just didn’t have the motivation or opportunity to devote time to my sites.  Things have drastically calmed down so I am working on getting caught up on news and photos.  Updates (and possibly a new look) are coming soon!

I’ve added a bunch of new Hayden photos today. There are some new set photos from ‘I Love You Beth Cooper’, a new Dooney & Burke scan, and a brand new photoshoot. I have some new candids of Milo and photos from his appearance at the NBC Universal Experience this week but I am still gathering images so I hope to have those up tomorrow at some time.

The third season of TV series Heroes will wow fans, according to its star Milo Ventimiglia.

“It’s going to melt your head,” the actor told Access Hollywood.

“Everybody took a big break and scattered and did a lot of different jobs and when we came back together we reconvened and we were reading these first couple of scripts - they were just incredible. It was right back to that excitement of the first season.”

The second season of the show was criticised in some sections of the media before the actors were forced to take a hiatus during the Hollywood writers’ strike - the season ended prematurely in the US in December. The cast returned to begin filming the third season earlier this month.

“We’re so excited to be back - it’s amazing,” said Ali Larter, who plays Niki Sanders in the show.

“The scripts are incredible. We’re sneaking into make-up trailers trying to get the new ones. As difficult as the strike was, I think it gave a surge of creativity to our writers.”

On the entertainment industry only having bad girls: “In Hollywood, there is no such thing as being a nice girl. Or being, you know, not messed up. If you’re not, [the tabloids will] make you that way. Nothing is private and when they write about you, it’s almost always completely false.”

On raising the awareness of animal rights, especially whales and dolphins: “[Heroes] put me in a place to speak for things that I’m passionate about. When I was younger, I’d always donate to the humane society.”

On her fashion sense: “I have the same sense of style that I did when I was growing up, but now I wear things that I might not have when I was younger, because I’m much more comfortable with my body. I’m definitely a jeans and tee shirt girl. I dress down and comfy whenever I can, which makes dressing up more exciting. I really like to look polished. I love pencil skirts and flirty dresses – but I’m not picky when it comes to designers; I could find something great to wear from French Connection or Gucci. I have a lot of fun dressing up and deciding what kind of look I want to go for depending on the event.”

On her rumored relationship with Milo:  “I’ll not comment until the day I die!”
